A modular bollard scheme was devised to address dangerous driving speeds present on a Syracuse residential street, while also creating communal space that was otherwise lacking in the neighborhood. The bollard features seating, communal library boxes, planters, and street-level lighting, while being composed of lightweight modules that can be easily disassembled and rearranged to meet programmatic needs.
The planters are designed to be deployed in a system using 'woonerf' traffic calming strategies to slow automobiles, reprogramming the street to be more pedestrian friendly.
